“Dhanush’s will be a special appearance (40 mins in the film approx). But his character will be so important. He agreed to play the role thanks to the rapport he shares with Subramaniam Siva,” say sources in the know.

"A helpless family who suffer a lot from criminals are out to take their revenge"
Yudham Sei is a crime thriller directed by Mysskin, who stole our hearts with his recent venture Nandhalala. Actor - Director Cheran and debutant Dipa Shah play the lead roles in this Kalpathi S. Aghoram production. Y. Gee. Mahendra, Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, Jayapraksh and Manicka Vinayagam are part of the supporting cast of Yudham Sei. Music is by K (Krishna Kumar) and cinematography is by Sathya. Amaran has done the art direction and Gagin the editing.
Mysskin, who gave a heart touching experience about the values of human life in Nandhalala, has now come in with a heart-breaking story about this insecure world that we are living in with Yudham Sei. Kidnap, rape & murder are common stories in the news, and Yudham Sei is an illustration of the same. People may forget these news articles in a few days, but the resulting suffering that the family of the deceased are subjected to is huge. Some may commit suicide, whereas the others live a very sorrowful life. But what happens if someone turns to fight and take revenge against the criminals?
Yudham sei is a unique investigation thriller. The characterization is realistic and the characters avoid the usual cinema-effects which is good to see. The first half of the movie is very slow but the depth of the story is good enough to keep the audience engaged. A racy second half is filled with twists and turns and is engaging. Each and every frame has been sculptured well by Mysskin. The climax is stunning and would probably be the highlight of the movie, raising a few eyebrows as it does.
Cheran plays a CB CID officer. Audience are more accustomed to him doing the romantic, family-based touchy roles. However, he has fit into this new class of role beautifully and has impressed with his performance. Jayaprakash is the one who steals the show in Yudham Sei. He fits in perfectly into his role as Dr. Judas, and he will for sure win a special place in Tamil Cinema in his future projects. Lakshmi Ramakrishnan & Y. Gee. Mahendra also play major roles. A major part of the movie is in their hands and they have done it well. Manicka Vinayagam, Selva, and Cheran’s superior officer have all given good performances.
Dialogues are realistic and sharp. In particular, dialogues like Konjam Ariva Vachukittu by Jayaprakash are great words that puts one into thought. Sathya’s camera speaks a lot, and is beautifully supported by perfect editing from Gagin. Amaran’s art direction is excellent.
Background score by K is different and enjoyable. The item song Kannitheevu Ponna comes up at the right time with a very catchy and hummable tune. Stunts are very different, and Cheran's night fight in the overbridge is appreciable.
If anything was a bit off-guard about Yudham Sei, it was in the form of a slow-paced first half. However, that does not take away much from Yudham Sei. Good story depth, characterization, performances and its overall value in depicting this insecure world help Yudham Sei get a Must Watch!

Yet another film has come with Madurai as its backdrop. A gang of four youths from nearby villages reach Madurai to find jobs. The unexpected turn of events in their lives after reaching the city is interestingly narrated in 'Thoonga Nagaram'.
One of the friends is Kannan (Vimal) who invokes the wrath of a powerful politician in his efforts to save an innocent girl from the latter's clutches. The politician draws up a master plan to get rid of Kannan with the help of his friends who agree to help him after he threatens to kill their family.
Director Gaurav himself plays one of the youths along with Vimal, Bharani and Nishanth. The film starts with a murder in a rainy night. When you are waiting keenly to see what happens, the director puts a card on screen saying 'six month before' and takes you back to tell you what happened before the murder.
In Madurai, Kannan meets his childhood buddy Radha (Anjali), working for a local television channel. Their fondness develops into love and they make their families accept their choice.
Here comes a twist. Vimal bashes up a blackmailer who secretly shoots videos of girls changing dresses in trial rooms of a leading textile shop and later blackmails them. One of such girls is known to Vimal.
Vimal beats up the blackmailer, only son of a powerful minister, so badly that he damages his eye. Knowing that the minister will be after him and his friends, the quartet goes underground.
When one of the friends is forcibly turned as a betrayer and joins the minister's plans to kill Vimal, the screenplay takes a twist and the story culminates in a gripping climax.
Gaurav provides the opening sequences praising Madurai for whatever it possesses. His narration is sleek but the first-half is a bit slow and filled with cliches on Madurai city.
Vimal does a decent job. Anjali, who seems to have put on weight, doesn't have a big role but does well. Nishanth, Bharani and Gaurav have meaty roles and have performed their respective roles well.
Singampuli's comedy fails to evoke any laughter, but the portion involving the two old women are rib ticklling. V.N. Chidambaram has performed his role majestically with his expressive face lending him a huge help.
Ulaganathan's cinematography is excellent. His work is especially good in the climax sequence, which was shot in the night. Babu's music is good with a couple of melodious numbers but the background music sounds noisy on many occasions.
It would have helped things a lot had Gaurav refrained from using the Tamil word oomai (dumb) quit too often especially in the voice over that comes from director's perspective.
Overall 'Thoonga Nagaram' manages to entertain with some thrill in the second half.

Satya(Narain) and Kiruba(Ajmal Ameer) are close friends living opposite each other in the neighbourhood. Satya is a rowdy, wasting his time drinking merrily and getting involved in fights. Though he and Kiruba passed college with a first class degree, Satya has no interest in joining the police force like his father. Kiruba studies hard to become a Sub-Inspector(SI), challenging Satya to do the same. Just a day before the exam, Satya decides to take up the exam as well, much to his friend's surprise and with little head start, passes the physical, written and interview, with the help of malpractices and influence from his uncle and becomes an SI. However, Kiruba doesn't make it through despite being straight forward; this creates a rift between the two.
Kiruba's father lies to Satya that he has gone to Bombay, but Satya finds him in the local bar, having become a drunkard.
Parallel is the story of Daya(Prasanna) and Loganathan(Pandiarajan), who extort money from businessmen through kidnappings. Before Satya became a policeman, he beat up Daya for molesting Kiruba's sister, though none including Kiruba know of this.
Satya gains fame by holding off knife-yielding men who come to kill an injured man at a hospital, though the man is killed later in the night. As a result Satya is drafted into a special task force to catch the gang members related to the crime. Daya and carry out two kidnappings, raping the victims on both occasions, and release them for ransom money. Kiruba is beaten up by the police for a skirmish at the local bar; his father suffers a heart attack after getting his son back from the police station. At this point of time Kiruba is employed by Daya, mainly because the former is distraught and will fall easily to the lure of money and booze. In the third time however, the police are informed, but the kidnappers find out by chance and change the drop off point at the last moment. They give the police the slip, but narrowly avoid capture, with Kiruba providing shelter for them in his house. Kiruba joins along to get money for his father's angioplasty, though he doesn't realise until its too late that he is doing illegal things and harming young children.
Meanwhile Satya identifies Daya from the characteristics, with a background check revealing that Daya was falsely accused of raping his senior's wife in the army. Daya, Logu and their accomplices are again almost caught when the police trace one of the accomplices' family. Daya kills his own man during this raid to avoid information being passed, and hatch a plan to escape to Bihar in a poultry van. Logu is killed by Daya, upon learning that the former had hatched a plan to kill him. However, to escape to the city outskirts to rendezvous with this van, they hijack the Inspector General's car with his two daughters inside. Switching soon to a disguised-dog van to get past checkposts with the two girls, Daya, Kiruba and another accomplice arrive at a sugarcane]] field. Satya recognises Kiruba's voice from the ransom call he makes to the IG, and follows his sister from the hospital, who has been instructed to bring a bag full of cash from their home(kept there by Daya), to the sugarcane field.
The plot to kidnap the IG's daughters is an elaborate ruse to divert the police force to the south of the city while they escape from the north. The special task force, who are in the south of the city, realise the plot and upon learning that Satya is alone in the north of the city, head in that direction.
In the sugarcane fields Kiruba shows compassion towards the two girls, treating them softly. Upon hearing some noise in the field, Daya splits the group, doing so to meet up directly with Kiruba's sister who has the money-bag. He tries to rape her, but Satya intervenes and a fist fight ensures, but the special task force comes upon them, and kill Daya by setting it up as an encounter. The two girls split and escape from the third accomplice, only for one of them to be recaptured by him, but is let off being too tiring to carry. Kiruba and the third accomplice try to run away, with Kiruba's sister behind him. Just as he leaves her to escape, she reveals that she is in love with Satya and uses the situation to handcuff herself to Kiruba to avoid him from escaping. In the end Satya shoots Kiruba in self defense and to save one of the IG's daughters from being shot. The ending scenes of the movie show that Satya and Kiruba's sister get married and have a son, whom they name Kiruba.
